Library Closed from 12pm on Tuesday the 16th of December

The Library and Computer Centre will be closed from 12pm on Tuesday the 16th of December for staff development. The Library and Computer Centre will be open from 9am on Wednesday the 17th of December. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Christmas Vacation Opening Hours



The Library and Computer Centre will be on vacation opening hours from Friday the 12th of December (we will not be open on Saturday the 13th or Sunday the 14th).

We will be open from 9am until 5pm from Monday the 15th of December until Friday the 19th of December. There will be no Saturday or Sunday opening within this period.

We will close on Friday the 19th at 5pm and re-open on Monday the 5th of January at 8am.

Remember you can access our online resources while the library is closed.

The library staff would like to wish all our users a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

RADAR Reaches over 30,000 Downloads

Congratulations to the researchers at GSA, we've reached over 30,000 downloads!!

A particular mention goes out to Dr Laura Gonzalez from the Research Office who is our most downloaded member of staff with over 4,000 downloads. Laura's work spans from exhibitions to performances and journals and texts, and is very interdisciplinary. She is currently working on some new outputs that will be available in RADAR soon. One particular output will be featured in "Trans-what? and Everything Else". For more information and to learn more about Laura's research, check out her website.

Postponed: Tonight's Twilight class. Photoshop: up the resolution!



Due to it being Reading Week and so few of you being around, we have decided to postpone tonight’s Photoshop Twilight Class.  It will be rescheduled in due course when there are more people able to come along.

Twilight classes will continue next week as normal with "Contributing to Wikipedia" next Tuesday 18th November at 5.30 in the Library, and "Animation Basics" next Thursday 20th November at 5.30 in the Reid

GSA Library to increase opening hours from January 5th 2015


In response to consistent student feedback, the Library will be increasing term time opening hours by 50% starting on 5th January 2015. From that date, the Library will be open 8am to 10pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. 

During the extended evening and weekend hours students will have full access to all library spaces, full access to all print and digital collections (except those printed materials kept in closed stores), and full access to computing facilities including printing. Self-issue and return of printed material & DVDs, and self-service payment for printing top-ups will be available. 

General advice and assistance at Level 0 Service Desk will be available 8-6pm Monday to Friday and 12-4pm at the weekends. More information will be made available in December.

It's Open Access Week!!

Hey all researchers! This week is Open Access Week (20th – 26th October 2014). Details of the week and events that are happening around the country can be found at http://www.openaccessweek.org/. Here at GSA we are wanting to encourage our researchers to upload their new research outputs to RADAR and to make any accompanying documents freely available to view, such as articles and images. Designing in Illustrator Thursday 9th October Media Studio, Reid Building 5.30pm

Inspiration Tuesday 7th October iMac Training Room 5.30pm

This Tuesday sees the Twilight Classes focussing on the Inspiration software. This software allows users to create mind maps. Mind mapping is a visual form of note taking that offers an overview of a topic and its complex information, allowing students to comprehend, create new ideas and build connections. Through the use of colors, images and words, mind mapping encourages students to begin with a central idea and expand outward to more in-depth sub-topics.
The class will take place at 5.30pm in the iMac Training Room on leve 2 of the Library at 5.30pm. So come along and learn how to use this fantastic piece of software.

Texthelp Read & Write Gold Tuesday 30th September iMac Training Room 5.30pm



The IT Twilight Classes are kicking off with a great class that will introduce the assistive technology, Texthelp Read & Write Gold. This software package supports users through a host of reading, writing and study/research functions. 

The class takes place in the iMac Training Room on level 2 of the library, tonight (Tuesday 20th of September) at 5.30pm. Just turn up, there is no need to book.
