Library Refurbishment Information

The print collections in the Library will not be accessible over the summer so …

borrow what you need now & keep it until September!

This summer a refurbishment project will take place to extend and improve the space in the Library. To enable the construction work to happen we need to relocate almost all the collection into temporary storage.
That means there will be no access to borrow or use the bulk of the Library’s print collections for three months. We therefore encourage you to plan ahead and borrow what you need now, to get you through resits, research and study over the summer.

To make it as easy as possible we are

  • Increasing the number of books you can borrow to 40
  • Starting on 29th April, ending 31st August 2013 for all undergraduates, post-graduates and staff
  • Extending the length of time you can keep the books.
  • Any books* borrowed or renewed between 29th April and 31st August will be due for return on the 16th September. (*excluding books in the Reading List Collection)
  • Providing free inter library loan service
  • 7th June – 9th September: no charge for inter-library loan (normally £3 per request) and no limit on the number of requests that can be made. Library staff can source and borrow books from libraries around the world. More information & request forms are on the website.
  • Supporting you to take advantage of the SCONUL Access scheme
  • This allows GSA staff and students to visit and use books and journals at 177 other academic libraries across the UK. Ask a staff member how to apply.
  • Increasing the number of eBooks available
  • Adding 4,500 new titles to the library catalogue.
