Archives News: April 2008

During April we have been working on our Gillespie, Kidd and Coia archive. The records of this celebrated architectural firm were gifted to The Glasgow School of Art in 2001. They include job files, photographs and drawings for all of the firm's major projects from the late 1950s-1980s, a total of over 18,000 items!

We are currently cataloguing and conserving this material in order to make it more accessible to users. This has been made possible by two HLF funded projects: Gillespie Kidd and Coia: Architecture 1956-1987 and The Mackintosh Conservation and Access Project Over half of the material has already been catalogued and a new Project Archivist, Mark Tripney has just started with us to continue this work. The material has recently been relocated to an area adjacent to our conservation studio - allowing our paper conservator, Ann Evans, easy access to the large architectural drawings she is working on.

The archive has already been used by researchers, architects, designers and journalists and we hope to make it even more accessible by putting the full catalogue online in 2009.
